This IS Roughing It

A few weeks ago, the ol' government (a.k.a. Brett's employer) sponsored a family camping night on base. Wanting to get some use out of the tons of camping stuff that inhabits our garage, (and not being ones to pass up anything involving free stuff,) we decided to take the kids up and camp on base.

Granted, we weren't exactly roughing it in the great outdoors. I mean, is it really considered camping when...

free snow cones and cotton candy are provided?

A legit petting zoo (and we're not talking deer, buffalo and other potentially hazardous animals) provides lots of entertainment,

for both kids?

When you can get a sparkly pink butterfly painted on your face, no questions asked?

Well, we did sleep in a tent...without an air mattress, so despite the fact that we had flushing toilets, a dinner catered by Outback Steakhouse and a Wal-Mart less than 5 minutes away (somebody forgot to pack diapers and a bottle) in addition to the above mentioned perks, I have determined that this trip can, in fact, be considered camping.

Plus, the kids loved it.

So it totally counts.

And it didn't rain.

What more can you ask for? (Other than to maybe not be camping right next to the noisiest campers in the park who stayed up until wee hours of the morn attempting to perfect Dave from Storage Wars' signature "YEEEEEEEP!")

At this point in my life, this is roughing it. I will save the "real" camping for when my kids are old enough to at least partially entertain themselves, can be trusted to use the bathroom in the forest alone and don't require a 3o minute stroller ride to drift off to sleep.

Um, I'm pretty sure that sounds like the best camping trip ever. Is there any other way to camp? Seriously?!

I went camping when Clint our oldest was about 10 months old for a family reunion. In the tent we made his bed (this was before pack and plays)he looked like a mummy and we heated up a bottle for his middle of the night feeding wrapped it up in a blanket and stuffed it at the foot of my sleeping bag. Not fun but survived! Now that's camping!

Now that is my kind of camping! Well with the addition of a air mattress. So it's our turn to come see you, let me know when works and we'll come visit.
