The Nitty Gritty

Now that I am finally starting to see straight (thinking straight is still a way off), I thought I would post in a little more detail about Coleman's arrival and first few weeks at home.

So, Wednesday, August 4th, we're at home getting ready to put Macy to bed when my water breaks at 8:30pm. My first thought? Thank goodness I wasn't at the Temple, Cherry Hill or some other equally embarrassing place. My second thought? Okay...what do we do now? This was a new experience for me since I was induced with Macy. I wasn't contracting, so I called the doctor who told me to head to the hospital. We called my sister to come stay with Macy, ran around trying to pack our bags, and headed to the hospital.


Here's the last pregnant shot of me, right outside the hospital (and proof that I'm not thinking straight. Under normal circumstances I would never post such a gross picture. I do not do pregnancy well.)

So we get to the hospital, I'm still not contracting and only dilated to a 2. Dr.Ward decides to have me stay for a few hours to see if anything will happen. Brett and I take a little walk down the hospital halls and the contractions start. We get back to the room and they start getting pretty intense, and after finding out that I was now dilated to a 4, I decide to get my epidural.

The epidural went great, besides the fact that the guy doing it was a little crazy. (Seriously, how many medical professionals start conversations by saying "Want to know what I was doing before they called me? Using a Keebler cookie to catch a mouse that's been eating all the fruit drink mix in my camping trailer!" Ummm...okay?)

After the epidural starting working, they checked me again and I was dilated to an 8. They called Dr. Ward, who arrived about 20 minutes later. Three pushes later, little Coleman was here!


And can I just say, after delivering an 8 lb 6 oz baby, 6 lbs 7 oz is nothing!?


Brett LOVES newborns...what better excuse to watch Sports Center all day?


This handsome little guy is doing great. He is a little cuddle bug and loves to be held. At his two week check-up he was already up to 7 lbs 1oz. He is still so tiny though-none of his clothes fit him yet! I've been a little frustrated with trying to get him to go longer than 1 1/2 to 2 hours between feedings...he almost always falls asleep while eating, then wakes up hungry because he didn't eat enough. He has this weird fussy period from about 9am to 3pm, but at least he sleeps okay at night, which is better than Macy's infant wide-awake-ness from about 10pm to 3am was.


Macy has really stepped up to her role as a big sister. She LOVES Coleman and is always talking and singing to him. She hates if we let him cry for even a second and is constantly telling us to go check on her brother. She has had a few more tantrums than usually and always wants to pretend that she is a baby, but overall I think she has adjusted a lot better than I thought she would.

What a crazy couple of weeks it has been! My house has never been so disorganized (and neither has my brain), but as wacky as it sounds, I already feel better at this point with two kids than I did with just one. Let's hope it stays that way...
